Texas State officially began its new chapter in the Pac-12 on Wednesday night, battling in-state rival UTSA to a 2-2 draw at the Park West Athletic Complex in San Antonio.

The season opener featured plenty of physical play as both teams worked through early-season mistakes and defensive miscues. Texas State (0-0-1) twice grabbed the lead, but UTSA (0-0-1) answered both times to prevent the Bobcats from leaving San Antonio with a victory.

Texas State didn't have to wait long to score its first goal as a member of the Pac-12.

In the fourth minute, sophomore forward Lilah Dupree took advantage of UTSA's inability to completely clear the ball. Dupree collected possession on the right side of the penalty area and sent a cross toward goal. The attempt took a deflection off a Roadrunner defender and found the back of the net for an own goal, putting the Bobcats ahead 1-0.

UTSA responded in the 20th minute after Texas State junior defender Jenny Ngankem was called for a foul inside the penalty area. Following a lengthy video review, the decision stood and Brooklyn Bailey converted the ensuing penalty to even the match at 1-1.

The score remained tied into the second half before Texas State found another breakthrough.

Sophomore midfielder Matsuri Tsutsui delivered the ball into a threatening position inside the box in the 67th minute. Redshirt senior defender Nina Norshie was there to capitalize, finishing the opportunity with her left foot to give Texas State a 2-1 advantage.

Once again, however, the Roadrunners quickly found an answer.

Six minutes later, UTSA created an opportunity from a set piece. Multiple deflections inside the penalty area created problems for Texas State redshirt junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Draper, and the Roadrunners ultimately found the equalizer in the 73rd minute.

With the match tied 2-2, both teams continued to play aggressively down the stretch. Neither side was able to produce the deciding goal, leaving Texas State and UTSA to split the result in the Bobcats' first official match of the 2026 season.

The draw gives Texas State its first result of the Pac-12 era and shifts the Bobcats' attention toward their home opener.

Texas State will return to San Marcos to host UT-Rio Grande Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled to stream for free on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.
