Week 4: North Texas' Biggest Games & Our Predictions

Week 3 in the DFW Metroplex did not disappoint.

We got our weekly scheduled beatdowns, a few nail-biters, unexpected upsets, and plenty of storylines heading into the final week before district play officially gets underway.

Waxahachie took down Denton Guyer by two scores. Rockwall pulled off an upset over Melissa. Walnut Grove continued making a name for itself in its new division, remaining undefeated while blowing out Frisco Reedy. Allen traveled to Southlake and handled Southlake Carroll by three scores. Coppell absolutely dismantled Timber Creek by 60 points — yes, you read that correctly.

DeSoto escaped with a win over Duncanville. North Shore narrowly got past South Oak Cliff. Prosper took down Austin Westlake. Lewisville dismantled perennial powerhouse Denton Ryan. Aledo picked up its first win of the season against Trinity Euless. And North Crowley welcomed Summer Creek to Funkytown before sending the Bulldogs home with a three-score loss.

Now, though, the regular season is entering a different phase.

Records reset. Every team is back at 0-0 in district, and the road to the playoffs officially begins.

Let's be honest — we had a rough one.

We got plenty of winners right, but when it came to predicting the actual margins, we were all over the place. A few games completely flipped our expectations, while others turned into much bigger blowouts than we anticipated.

But that's what makes high school football in North Texas so unpredictable.

District Football Is Here

After three weeks of non-district football, there's no more easing into the season.

Every game from here on out carries a little more weight.

Some of North Texas' biggest programs are already showing exactly who they are. Allen has continued to look like one of the area's toughest teams. North Crowley has made its presence known. Waxahachie just knocked off Denton Guyer. Walnut Grove is proving that its move into a new division hasn't slowed it down. And teams like DeSoto, Southlake Carroll, Duncanville, Prosper and others now have to turn their attention toward district competition.

At the same time, teams that struggled during the first three weeks still have plenty of football left to play.

That's what makes Week 4 so important.

The records may reset, but the competition doesn't.

With district championships, playoff spots and seeding all eventually on the line, every Friday night from here on out is going to matter.

We went 10-8 on winners last week, and our margins clearly need some work.

So, as always, we'll see how badly we got it wrong next week.
